Library Rules
General Library Rules- Silence: All Library users are expected to respect the rights of others to study in a quiet atmosphere.
- Disruptive devices: Cellular phones, beepers and other disruptive devices should be deactivated or put in silent mode when entering the library.
- Food and beverages: Library users shall not be allowed to take meals and drinks in the library.
- Smoking and alcohol use is not permitted in the library.
- Storage of personnel items: No bags, umbrellas, parcels, etc. except files and books may be brought into the library. Adequate storage facilities have been provided at the entrance to the library.
- Inspection: On leaving the library, all users are required to produce for inspection all books and items taken out of the library.
- Shelving: Books and other articles left for long on chairs and tables will be removed and shelved by the library staff.
- Borrowing of library Materials is only for Staff members.
- All library materials may be borrowed from the library except special collections, project reports and periodicals.
- Users can request for materials from the library through email or Ask A Librarian, phone call or through the Library system. A reservation will be made, and staff will be informed by email. Reservations will be held for only 3 days.
- Staff shall be sent 2 reminder notices 5 days before the loan expiry date for materials borrowed. Loan extensions may be made if the material is still needed. No overstay with a book without permission (a staff shall not be allowed to stay with a borrowed book beyond two months.
- Staff with overdue information resources or outstanding accounts will not be allowed to borrow until the accounts are settled.
- A borrower remains responsible for protecting any library material in their possession against damage, library materials should not be passed to another user.
- Lost material must be reported to the library staff. Charge for lost material or damaged to the material shall be computed at the current effective exchange rate of the book trade.
- Departments may request to place some information resources on reserve for their staff as working documents.
- Fines will be charged on users who have defaulted on their loan period. The fines to be paid will be in accordance with the Fines policy
- Admission to the Library (Registration): Users are required to register with the staff in-charges. Requirements for Registration include:
- One passport size photograph
- National ID / Passport or Student ID
- Contact address
- Names of two professional or academic referees
- Each time you come to the library; you must sign in the User’s Register at the entrance.
- External users shall NOT be allowed to borrow books / publications from the library. The library publications are used for reference only.
- Bags and personal effects should be kept in the locker at the entrance of the library. However, cash or any valuable items should be removed, for the library shall not be held liable for lost items in the bags.
